Thailand´s pay-TV operator Cable Thai Holding (CTH) will be offering satellite-TV services along with their current subscription based cable TV services. The company has rented transponders from VNA-Sat, a Vietnam based satellite provider for transmitting signals to 125 channels. CTH plans to sell their own satellite-TV receivers that include KU-band dishes and STBs.
Investment cost for the satellite receivers or the manufacturer´s names are not yet disclosed by the company. However it is said that CTH´s more than 200 local cable operators would be distributors and sellers of the receivers. Subscribers will have to pay USD 33.16 for the satellite TV receiver, while cable viewers who are not CTH subscribers will have to pay USD 59.74 as deposit for the digital STB.
CTH has opted for introducing satellite-TV receivers in order to attract more customers to watch the live broadcast of EPL football matches. The company plans to launch a basic package for viewing 120 CTH pay-TV channels and extra packages to watch 380 live EPL matches. With the EPL matches the company is targeting 1 million subscribers from satellite-TV platform and another million from their cable TV network. CTH aims to replace 1 million analog STBs with digital by this year end of which so far 300 thousand digital boxes are deployed reports The Nation.
